The Vice President for Research is responsible for formulation and implementation of the University’s strategic plan for research development. The Vice President chairs the Research Committee of Academic Council, and oversees central administrative services for research development activities.
The Office of Vice President for Research comprises three separate but related units, namely the Research Support Office, the Commercialisation Office, and the Graduate Studies Office. The Research Support Office provides guidance on grant applications, proposal preparation, external funding, ethical and compliance issues. The Commercialisation Office promotes all commercialisation of research, including technology transfer and links between university researchers and industry and enterprise. The Graduate Studies Office, under the leadership of the Dean of Graduate Studies, promotes and develops fourth level programmes in the university (both taught and research), with an increasing emphasis on structured PhD programmes. The Graduate Studies Office also links strongly to the Registrar’s Office. All three offices are currently located in the John Hume Building on the North Campus (see map).
